Yesterdays (31st July 2007) unanimous vote by the UN securtiy Council to send a strengthened African Union-United Nations force to Darfur (in the Sudan) was today welcomed by Amnesty International UK. Over 300,000 people are estimated to have died during the 4 year long conflict in Dafur which is why Amnesty International have been campaigning for a form of effective peacekeeping to be sent to help put an end to such large numbers of deaths.

Although welcoming the move, Amnesty International warned of the urgent need of the force to be deployed immediately, with effective resources and the need for the Sudanese Government to give their full support.
