The latest research suggests that more than one in five small charities are not expected to survive. This is because they cannot raise enough funds to support the increase in workloads which means they do not have the resources to stay open. To try and solve this problem Small Charity Week returns this year and will take place between 13-18 June as it seeks to offer free advice and support to small charitable organisations throughout the UK. Small charities will be able to improve their knowledge and participate in fundraising initiatives to raise much needed finance. Alternatively, the week gives them the opportunity to network with policy makers.
Pauline Broomhead, CEO of the FSI, the charity behind Small Charity Week commented: “Without adequate solutions to minimise small charity skills gaps, more charities will struggle to meet their beneficiaries’ needs or be forced to close. The lack of resources in the sector is evident, so Small Charity Week aims to raise awareness of this and provide much needed support for small charities”.
Advice on raising awareness
The week will begin with I ♥ Small Charities Day. This is a day designed to raise social media awareness of the consistent hard work undertaken by small charities throughout the UK. The second day is called Big Advice Day and will be a combination of a national event as well as a variety of regional events. The day promises to offer small charities access expert advice on a 1 to 1 basis on a variety of topics.
The chance to meet with policy makers
Policy Day takes place on June 15th and consists of a reception that will take place in Admiralty House, Westminster. Small charities will have the opportunity to meet with key policy makers, Members of Parliament as well as other small charities so they can discuss key issues related to their sector. Fundraising Day takes place on the 16th June and this will include a number of initiatives such as a Fundraising conference where Adam Clayton is scheduled to be the headline speaker. The conference will enable small charities to learn directly from experts at an all-day function taking place in London.
Bringing charities together with volunteers
Volunteering Day takes place on the penultimate day of the conference, June 17th. The goal of this particular day is to bring small charities together with volunteers and provide a platform so that both parties can meet and collaborate through networking events. The final day takes place on 18th June and is designed to celebrate small charities everywhere.
