Save the Children, Battersea Park Walk – Sunday 19 August 2007
At the end of 2005 an estimated 15 million children worldwide had been orphaned by AIDS. The vast majority of them – about 12 million – live in sub-Saharan Africa and it’s estimated that within four years 25 million children will be AIDS orphans. Now, deep into 2007, people are working away in their own small ways to try to make a difference to that situation.
But sometimes people aren’t sure exactly what to do for the maximum impact or they wonder if their small contribution will even scratch the surface of the ‘big’ problem or else they just wonder how best to channel their efforts in the most effective way.
Well Save the Children and a concept called ‘Pushy Mums’ jointly came up with a great notion a while back; it’s being successfully repeated all over the place and with just a little bit of individual effort – it can make a difference. What they do is invite a bunch of pro-active mums to take part in a sponsored buggy-push-around to raise funds for children orphaned by AIDS.
They’ve had Pushy Mum events in the past in Bath, Chiswick, Devon, Guildford, Leeds, Richmond, St Albans, Shelby, Staffordshire, Wanstead and even in Melbourne, Australia too. And the next one is taking place on Sunday 19 August, starting at 10.30 a.m.with a mass buggy-push around London’s Battersea Park and Save the Children is calling on all mums (who can) to take part in the walk – just 1.5 miles that’s all.
Bring your pram, your partner, your pals and your progeny – to a fun family and friends’ day-out that will raise vital funds for children around the world orphaned by AIDS. You can meet other mums, maybe spot a ‘celeb’ or two whilst raising funds and awareness for Save the Children.
Getting involved is fun and simple – it’s a walk in the park!
