Childline UK have joined forces with the Saltaire Yamaha Music School and some of the world’s biggest rockstars to launch a new national fundraising campaign to help provide a free helpline for youngsters in distress. Star names such as Kylie Minogue, Jools Holland and Paolo Nutini are all backing the plan to offer free starter lessons at a Yamaha Music School, in exchange for a donation to ChildLine Rocks.
Hoping to raise £60,000 from the 92 Yamaha schools to help support the NSPCC charity, the campaign is also supported by US rock legends like guitar ace Joe Bonamassa, who’s album Sloe Gin topped the US Billboard Blues chart for ten weeks. He said –
I think the fact that ChildLine Rocks and Yamaha are able to offer free music lessons to people of all ages, presents an amazing opportunity for people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it.
The campaign will finish next year with the annual ChildLine Rocks concert at Indigo, inside London’s O2 Arena. The first concert, held in 2008, raised more than £100,000 for ChildLine, and a band comprising pupils of the Yamaha Music School will be opening proceedings
ChildLine answers some 2.3million calls a year from distressed children across the country. Thanks to their partnership with the Saltaire Yamaha Music Schools, they can now not only raise much needed funds to try and gaurentee every call is answered, but also help the more fortunate to help the less fortunate in the community.
